Top 10 Australian Sports by Participation

Sport has always played a major role in the lives of Australians. It is a part of our way of life, our culture, which is why over 90% of Australians either watch, play or engage with Australian sport. We have produced some of the greatest sportsmen in the world, and our team’s performances have smashed expectations of what a country of our size could achieve.

There are many reasons why sport is important to Australians. It can bring people of different race, sex, gender or political views together. It can teach the principles of hard work, mateship, and loyalty, of which Australians pride themselves on. Whether you are watching cricket in the middle of summer or getting excited for finals in September, Australian sport can be experienced and enjoyed by all.

With 11 million adults and 3 million children participating in sports every year we decided to find out which Australian sports are the most played and where they are ranked. Does your sport fall on the list?
