ONTHEGO SPORTS IS RIDING WITH THE STEVE WAUGH FOUNDATION FOR RARE DISEASES

ONTHEGO SPORTS IS RIDING WITH THE STEVE WAUGH FOUNDATION FOR RARE DISEASES

Posted by sun moon on

ONTHEGO Sports is excited to launch its partnership with The Steve Waugh Foundation and The Captains Ride, putting rare diseases on the map.

THE STEVE WAUGH FOUNDATION SUPPORTS CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS WITH RARE DISEASES.

“The rare disease patient is the orphan of the health system, often without diagnosis, without treatment, without research and therefore, without reason to hope.”

The Steve Waugh Foundation provides Individual Grants and Respite Camps along with supporting research and raising awareness for rare diseases.

ONTHEGO Sports believes in The Steve Waugh Foundation’s mission to ensure children and young adults with rare diseases have somewhere they can turn.

ONTHEGO Sports is humbled to be working with The Steve Waugh Foundation on The Captains Ride by raising awareness, being an official supporter, providing riders gear and having our founder participate in the 6-day event.

The Captains Ride, Riders Gear

The Captains Ride is an epic 700km journey with over 10,000m of vertical climbing from Bowral to Mount Kosciusko.

From 29th of October to 3rd of November, 70 dedicated athletes will be riding with ‘Strength of Character’ for 400, 000 Australian children and 6,000-8000 rare diseases.

ONTHEGO Sports is lucky enough to be the apparel partner providing team wear to the courageous riders embarking on this journey. ONTHEGO offered a non-profit discount to the Foundation for all riders kit and accessories to the value of $18,000 AUS.

The Steve Waugh Foundation and ONTHEGO have worked collaboratively on creating high performance kit for the riders.

This kit includes jerseys, bib knicks, ridetek vests, softshell jackets, activtek tees, cotton tees, caps, drink bottles and of course socks!

There are also two special jerseys created for the range:

The ‘Captain’s Choice’ Jersey is awarded daily to the rider who best exemplifies the team spirit and strength of character of the day.

The ‘Where’s Wally’ Jersey is awarded daily to the rider, who through their own fault (or not), is deemed to be the “wally’ of the day.

ONTHEGO and The Steve Waugh Foundation have produced a ‘Rare Edition’ Cycle Kit which is numbered 1-100. As a collectors range, the names of 100 children with rare diseases are listed down the spine of the jersey.

Founder Participation

ONTHEGO Sports Founder Mick Spencer has signed up to participate in the ride with his brother, Nathan Spencer.

Spencer posted the following on LinkedIn to promote his fundraising:

I am SUPER excited to have signed up for the ride of my life! (And a little nervous)!

Spending time with Australian Cricket Legend Steve Waugh, I have been exposed to his wonderful cause of putting Rare Diseases on the map through The Steve Waugh Foundation.

Adversity and health challenges is something not new to me. I was born with severe shortsighted eyesight, and have suffered two heart conditions in my life to date.

I am 100% of the belief that adversity moulds you greater than the person you are.

Some health challenges do not get the awareness they need and deserve. Rare diseases are exactly that.

So, what am I going to do? I am going to join 70 incredible individuals and cycle from Bowral, NSW to the top of Mount Kosciusko on October 29 - 3rd November, totalling over 700km and over 10,000m of vertical climbing.

Do I have the fitness level to do this yet? No, don't think so!

Do I have the confidence that I can ride 10km uphill? Pass!

Do I have the passion, persistence and empathy for the fact that I am lucky to be alive and healthy, and a chance to make a statement to raise awareness for this? Absolutely Yes!

I am aiming to raise one dollar for every metre of vertical climbing. That’s $10,000 in total.

To date, myself and the ONTHEGO team have put a lot of love and effort into this epic ride. I will be there on the bike with every mountain. The ONTHEGO kit will be with every rider. We have provided Cycle Apparel to support the riders journey, on and off the bike.

So how can you get involved?

We will be following the 6-day ride here on OTG News and on our Facebook page.
